One of the most exciting parts of being a member of Pack 80 is the variety of fun traditions and activities that Scouts and their families enjoy throughout the year. Our pack calendar is filled with events that encourage creativity, friendly competition, outdoor adventure, and time together as a Scouting community. These events help build memories while reinforcing the values of teamwork, leadership, and doing our best.
Pinewood Derby
The Pinewood Derby is one of the most anticipated events of the year for many Scouts. Each Scout receives a small block of pinewood, wheels, and axles and works with a parent or guardian to design and build their own racing car. Scouts can shape, sand, paint, and decorate their cars to reflect their creativity and personality. On race day, the cars compete on a multi-lane track in a series of exciting races. The Pinewood Derby is not only about speed—it is also about craftsmanship, creativity, and good sportsmanship.
Rain Gutter Regatta
The Rain Gutter Regatta is a fun and unique racing event where Scouts build small sailboats and race them down long water-filled gutters. Scouts power their boats by blowing into the sail, making for an exciting and sometimes hilarious competition. Just like the Pinewood Derby, each Scout builds and decorates their own boat ahead of the event. The Regatta encourages creativity and problem-solving while providing lots of laughter and excitement.
Camping Adventures
Camping is an important part of the Cub Scout experience. Pack 80 organizes family-friendly camping trips where Scouts can experience the outdoors in a safe and supportive environment. During these trips, Scouts enjoy activities such as hiking, campfire programs, outdoor games, and learning basic outdoor skills. Camping gives Scouts the opportunity to explore nature, practice teamwork, and build confidence while spending quality time with their families and fellow Scouts.
Fishing Events
Fishing events are another favorite activity in Pack 80. These outings introduce Scouts to the basics of fishing, including casting, patience, and respect for nature. Many Scouts experience the thrill of catching their very first fish during these events. Whether the fish are big or small, the real reward is spending time outdoors together and learning new skills.
Blue and Gold Ceremony
The Blue and Gold Ceremony is a special celebration held each year to honor the birthday of Cub Scouting and recognize the accomplishments of our Scouts. This event is often the highlight of the Scouting year and brings together Scouts, families, and leaders for a memorable gathering. The ceremony typically includes awards, recognition of achievements, special presentations, and sometimes the advancement of Arrow of Light Scouts as they prepare to move on to Scouts BSA. It is a meaningful time to celebrate the growth and success of every Scout in the pack.
Building Memories Together
These annual traditions are what make Pack 80 such a vibrant and fun community. From racing handcrafted cars and boats to exploring the outdoors and celebrating achievements, each event helps Scouts learn, grow, and create lasting memories with their families and fellow Scouts. We look forward to continuing these traditions year after year as new Scouts join the adventure.
